Top sunset places

(Hjordis Fogelberg by Ibiza MyGuide in no particular order)

Ibiza prides itself with some of the most stunning sunset viewing locations and having lived hear for decades I have almost seen the sunset from every possible west side location on the island (which is from where the sun sets in the summer).

Here is a list of my favourite places for a perfect Ibizan sunset experience:

The glamorous sunset at Experimental Beach with its chic wooden terrace overlooking the sea and sunset that is simply a-mazing. I feel like I’m repeating myself at times when I go on about the sunsets, but here they really are out of this world. The restaurant serves French-based cuisine that is medium priced but worth every penny.

– The Budget sunset at Punta Galera. This spot is really popular with the San Antonio night workers, they flock here to soak up the sun and grab some peace before the long night ahead. No sand, just flat, smooth rocks that offer a natural tanning bed. Take a picnic and a mask and dive into the deep glistening waters. To get here, take the road to Santa Inés (Santa Agnès) and after about 2km go left and drive to the coast past a residential area. Park and walk down to the rocks that glow red at sunset-

– The Spiritual sunset. This stunning restaurant was created by Manel Aragonés, who really has the most beautiful eyes on the planet! It sits perched on a little headland at Cala Conta Beach. Islanders flock here in the late afternoon for sunset dining so it gets pretty booked up.

The shop at the front is great for a little tunic or an extra sarong, and when the sun dips you will understand how it got its name.

Kumharas: the Trance/boho sunset. This place is everything a sunset bar should be. Very unpretentious and with that original Ibiza trance vibe about it.  There’s a little hippy market, comfy sofas, cushions everywhere, and of course a magnificent sunset. The menu is mainly vegetarian with a couple of meat choices. With its stone tower it also stands out along the San Antonio bay. It can be a bit hard to find, but just follow the road along the coast from San Antonio headed south west through Port des Torrent and keep your eyes open for the sign.

The Party sunset at this legendary pre-party bar and sea-fronted restaurant in San Antonio holds events every single night of the summer, and has hosted many famous DJ. Owner Javier Anadón opened it almost 20 years ago and these days his sons, Christian and Alan, are in charge. Definitely one of my pre-party spots when I go out on the West side.

The Formentera sunset. I just adore this beach restaurant that sits tucked within the dunes and juniper trees on this stunning beach which is the nearest to the port. I love its shaded shack-like design that’s just perfect to sip cocktails until it’s time to get the boat back to Ibiza. If you’re lucky enough to be sleeping on Formentera, you can enjoy the place a bit longer and watch the sun set into the sea.

The hippie sunset. I come to this cove more for the vibe than for the beach itself as I find that the gritty sand here lets it down a bit. The restaurants are good, there’s a funky fashion boutique and a great juice bar, so it has everything else covered. It is one of the original hippy beaches and there’s a mass exodus here every Sunday when people from all over the island come to listen to, or play the drums at sunset.

The romantic sunset. Built in the fifties when there was nothing but sea and sand, I love the rustic look of this place. Try and reserve the little table outside on the edge of the rock, which they always set with a candle. So romantic!

-The Balearic Sunset. This relatively unknown little spot sits perched on the cliffs of Cap Negret north of San Antonio, and has truly unbeatable views of “Sa Conillera” island as well as an amazing sunset – some say the best on the island. Get a spot on the lower patio where you can sip your drink of choice, and relax with the panoramic sunset as your backdrop.
