(Street) Art in Ibiza

Exhibition proposals for this summer

Ibiza in summer offers, in addition to everything we already know, exhibition proposals that hardly couldn’t be seen in any other place. Or maybe they could but in any case it’s surprising and brings down prejudices to find some of the key names of contemporary art with exhibitions in Ibiza. Remember that Ibiza was an european intellectuality spot between the 30’s and the 50’s, with visitors of the likes of Walter Benjamin or the dadaist Raoul Hausmann, among other. Now far from the german avant-garde, the island becomes a meeting point of graffiti and street artists. Welcome.

Bloop Festival

One of the Ibiza summer events that should have international recognition and prestige however sadly ends up as a local anecdote is Bloop Festival. With mainly mural paintings around San Antonio, they have brought artists like Okuda, Inti, Phlegm or Zosen and Mina.

For the 2016 edition they’ve extended their range to Vila, they’ve added activities and if anyone wants further information will have to figure it out in their website. Fail in communications. Distinction in programming.

From July 16th to August 16th

Parra y Romero

Ibizan headquarters of Parra y Romero art gallery is one of those places in the island that you feel to be outside it. In the middle of the countryside at Santa Gertrudis hides an industrial unit and one of the best exhibition projects of the country.

This summer takes in the exhibition “Reflections” by Robert Barry (New York, 1936), one of the conceptual art and minimal pioneers, in which he plays with two common points of his career: the space and the language.

The gallery also hosts the works of one of the most promising artists right now, Adam Pendleton (USA, 1984). Under the title of “Whole Fragments”, Pendleton makes a series of site-specific pieces about the recontextualization of the history. 100% Recommendable.
